Alvina L. “Vina” Hueg, 91, formerly of St. Anthony Park, died peacefully in her sleep on April 8, 2018, in a Wisconsin nursing home where she had lived for the last few years.
Vina was born Nov. 7, 1926, in Hollis, N.Y. She and her husband moved to a home on Gordon Avenue in St. Anthony Park in 1958 and raised their large family there.
She was the receptionist at Children’s Home Society of Minnesota (CHSM) for more than 30 years. Some tributes from former CHSM employees:
“Vina was a wonderful, gracious lady who was loved by all of us at Children’s Home Society.”
“She was like ‘a mother to us all,’ and a person who could handle any situation that arose—and did, with such kindness and graciousness.”
“She was the first person people saw when they entered the building, and it was her welcome that built a positive image of our agency.”
She was also very active in Corpus Christi Catholic Church and in other community groups.
Vina was preceded in death by her daughter, Ann, and is survived by her six sons, Bill, Tom, John, Paul, Mark and Mike, and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Her Funeral Mass was celebrated April 14 at St. Mary’s Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Hammond, Wis.
