Bugle nears donor fund goal, but future remains challenging

Thank you, Bugle supporters! After conducting our annual fund appeal over the past three months, our goal of $52,000 is in sight.

As of Jan. 6, the Bugle had received $49,120 in contributions. By press time, we may have actually met or exceeded our $52,000 goal. This is good  news for our newspaper.

However, the other side of the story: The Bugle now more than ever needs more donor support since advertising revenue, which covers about 60 percent of our costs, has fallen appreciably in the last several years.

Meanwhile, we have held the line on expenses, but some cost increases have been inevitable, most notably printing and distribution.

The future

Going forward, the Bugle’s staff and board of directors is committed to diligently address the newspaper’s financial challenges. We are beginning both short- and long-term strategic planning to ensure the Bugle’s future viability. As always, we welcome your suggestions and ideas.
