Como carousel opens May 1, seeks volunteers

Cafesjian’s Carousel will open on Wednesday, May 1.

The historic carousel graced the Minnesota State Fair for 75 years and spent a brief period in downtown St. Paul before moving to the park in 2000.

In 1988, the carousel was saved from being auctioned to collectors by Our Fair Carousel, a nonprofit community group that continues to own and operate the carousel today. The group is seeking volunteers to operate the ride, assist riders, and sell tickets and merchandise in the gift shop. Volunteers work three- or four-hour shifts two or more times each month. New volunteers are encouraged to apply individually, in pairs, or as groups. Training is provided for all positions and free parking is available.

For more information about volunteer opportunities, contact Cafesjian’s Carousel at 651-489-4628, email volunteer@ourfaircarousel.org, or go to www.ourfaircarousel.org.

The carousel will be open from May 1 to Sept. 3, Tuesday to Friday, 11 a.m.-4 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday, 11 a.m.-4 p.m. It remains open on weekends through Oct. 31, 11 a.m.-4 p.m.
