The City of Falcon Heights, in association with the Falcon Heights-Lauderdale Lion’s Club, will hold its the second annual Sidewalk Poetry Contest in August. Submissions will be accepted beginning Thursday, Aug. 1, through Sunday, Sept. 1.
Entries must meet the following criteria:
Only Falcon Heights residents may enter.
All residents of all ages are eligible.
A single author may submit up to two poems.
Text and subject matter must be appropriate for the general public.
Poems can’t exceed 10 lines, 44 characters per line (including spaces), and the overall limit is 250 characters per poem.
Poems must be the original work of the entrant and may be previously published.
All entries will be reviewed by a panel in a blind selection process and one poem will be selected as the winner. Last year, the Mayor’s Sidewalk Poetry Panel, pored over the 23 submissions and chose the following selection by Louella Hirsch, which was stamped into the intersection of Hamline and California Aavenues:
