A new local choir is developing a broad repertoire and hopes to entertain at community events in the months ahead. And in the meantime, it’s looking for a few more voices.
The Heritage Choir will meet on the second and fourth Mondays of the month beginning at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 9, at Peace Lutheran Church, 1744 Walnut St., Lauderdale.
The goal of the choir, sponsored by the Vienna Community Arts Studio, 2380 Hampden Ave., St. Paul, is to celebrate a diverse community with a multicultural heritage, said Nancy Sogabe-Engelmayer, the studio’s development director.
“We believe that music is not for an elite but is a vital and lifelong component of community and family life,” she said. “The choir provides people with a means for getting together and sharing a variety of music and they really seem to enjoy it.”
Those interested in joining the choir can contact Sogabe-Engelmayer by calling 651-808-5980. There are no age restrictions and no fee for participating, although choir members are asked for a contribution to defray expenses. There’s no audition and the ability to read music isn’t required, although it’s helpful, Sogabe-Engelmayer said.
