St. Anthony Park history series continues

The monthly history series on St. Anthony Park continues with a second-part session on “Religious and Institutional Spaces.” The meeting will be at 7 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 13, at St. Anthony Park Lutheran Church, 2323 Como Ave.

The monthly presentations are by Kristin Anderson, an Augsburg University Department of Art and Design professor and St. Anthony Park resident.

When attending in person, enter the church at the Como Avenue entrance and please mask up.

On Tuesday, Jan. 10, the history topic will be “Our Schools.” Plan to attend in person or via zoom.

Women’s Drum Center class

The nonprofit Women’s Drum Center, 2242 University Ave., is offering a beginning hand drum class from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 7.

Class members play djembes to explore pulse and rhythms. Easy, energizing exercises will be used to build skills. Explore an enriching musical experience. Instructor is Jo Klein. Drums are provided and cost of the class is $15 per participant. Register at womensdrumcenter.org.

Seniors activities

The St. Anthony Park Area Seniors will hold a mix of in-person and virtual activities in December.

In-Person: Blood Pressure Clinic: Dec. 20, from 3 to 3:45 p.m., at Seal Hi-Rise, 825 Seal St.

Hybrid: Holiday Piano Concert and Sing-along: Dec. 13 at 7 p.m. The concert will be held at the seniors office, 2200 Hillside Ave.

Virtually: Chair Yoga: Mondays, Dec. 5, 12, 19, 10 to 11 a.m.

Virtually: Caregiver Support Group: Groups meet the first Thursday, Dec. 1 at 1 p.m.

Virtually: Lunch Bunch Session: Wednesday, Dec. 14 from Noon to 1 p.m.

St. Anthony Park Library events

The St. Anthony Park Library, 2245 Como Ave., will host a variety of activities in December including:

Artful Watercolor Class for Adults 55+: Fridays, Dec. 2 and 9, 11 a.m. to noon. Explore watercolor painting at this class, designed for all experience levels, beginning through advanced. English Conversation Circle: Thursdays, 4-5:30 p.m. Join the University of Minnesota Retirees Volunteer Center and the Partners in English program for free English practice at the library. All levels of English language skill are welcome. No registration required. *Please note: There will be no English Conversation Circle on Dec. 8.

Fun Lab: Wednesday, 3:30-4:30 p.m. Hang out at the library and make cool stuff! Fun Lab is designed for kids aged 7-11 years old. No registration required.

Winter Solstice Star Watch Party: Tuesday, Dec. 20, 6:30 p.m. Join us outdoors on the library lawn to watch the great celestial show in the skies over St. Paul with retired WCCO meteorologist Mike Lynch. Come look through giant telescopes aimed at Jupiter, Saturn, Mars, star clusters and galaxies; learn to spot constellations. The Star Watch Party is presented in partnership with the St. Anthony Park Library Association. All ages are welcome. No registration required. Feel free to bring lawn chairs to make for comfy star watching!
