Academy of Finance awards
Academy of Finance (AOF) freshmen and sophomores ended the year with a recognition ceremony at Travelers corporate headquarters downtown St. Paul. Students who earned A and B Honor Roll status received certificates and additional awards for going above and beyond.
AOF teacher Gail Rosenow received Best Prep’s Larson Financial Literacy Award in May for her consistent excellence in business education. Best Prep’s founding partners 3M, General Mills, Ecolab and Cargill sponsor the collaboration between the business community and education.
Class of 2015 news
Senior Honors Night was held at the school on May 27. Honors ranged from academic department awards to national Advanced Placement Scholar recognitions to Athletes of the Year. Additionally, dozens of scholarships earned by Como Park seniors were announced.
The Class of 2015 graduation ceremony was held June 4 at Roy Wilkins Auditorium. The choirs and band performed, senior Destyn Land gave the student address, and English teacher Chong Thao gave the commencement address. After the diplomas were presented, the Como Booster Club, aided by parent volunteers of Como students past and present, along with local businesses, sponsored the annual all-night graduation party for the seniors at school.
Learning about climate change
Dr. Mark Seeley, a professor of climatology at the University of Minnesota, and the father of Como alumni, visited science classes on May 28 to discuss climate change and connect students’ recent environmental studies to current events.
See you at the parade
Como parents, teachers and students hosted a stand at the Hamline Midway Spring Festival on June 16. The Como Booster Club, athletic teams and academic departments also plan to show their Como pride in the Fourth in the Park parade in St. Anthony Park on July 4. The parade starts at 11 a.m. (See schedule on page XX.)
