When considering who to support for public office, I take many factors into consideration, such as platform, experience, vision, and drive to serve the public interest on behalf of constituents. I decided to support Yakasah Wehyee because he exemplifies a quality public servant who would work tirelessly for the betterment of our community.
Wehyee has a solid resume, including a host of leadership and community activism roles, a Political Science and History degree from Hamline University, and his current venture as a Political Science doctoral candidate at the University of Minnesota. We need well-rounded candidates who have both the experience actively improving the lives of community members, as well as those with the academic training to understand municipal government to serve as our elected leaders, and Wehyee has both.
Also, Wehyee has an authentic and passionate commitment to improve the lives of Falcon Heights residents. Wehyee has vowed to continue ensuring that the city’s Inclusion and Policing Task Force recommendations are enforced, and he has committed to addressing the needs of renters, a group of constituents who are disproportionately ignored by policymakers. As a part of his platform, Wehyee has also committed to maintaining and improving our local public infrastructure, fighting climate change through local, commonsense solutions, and pushing for affordable housing initiatives.
Given Wehyee’s drive for public service, wealth of ambitious ideas, and experience serving the community, I strongly urge fellow residents to vote for him on Nov. 5.
