William “Bill” Helms, 98, of Rose­ville, died July 3, 2021. He served in the Marine Corps in both World War II and the Korean Conflict.

He was stationed at El Toro Air Base, doing trial work. After his time in the Marines, he met Frances Hill, whom he married in Lake Mills, Iowa, in 1947.

Bill then earned his juris doctorate upon completion of his studies at Drake University. Frances and Bill lived in Falcon Heights from 1953-2008. He worked as a trust officer in St. Paul at American National Bank and eventually as a financial planner at his own practice.

Bill loved to play bridge, squash, handball and golf. He was also an avid runner into his 70s, after which he took up swimming and yoga. William was preceded in death by his wife Frances, sister Marjorie (Peter) Czajkowski and brother Wilbur James. He is survived by his daughters Sharlyn and Barbara (Larry) Helms-Bot and two granddaughters. Interment was at Fort Snelling National Cemetery. Memorials preferred to Union Gospel Mission or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
